The Atrush block is a crude oil development with ten producing wells, an on-block central processing facility and a temporary early production facility located at one of the drilling pads. Crude oil production from the block is transported to the boundary where the export crude enters the Kurdistan Export Pipeline network and is sold to the Kurdistan Regional Government. Production commenced and crude oil was first exported for sale in July 2017.
Initially planned as a 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) development, production levels from the block have steadily increased since the commencement of production operations, with daily production of approximately 50,000 boepd at the end of 2019. Along with our partners, we plan to continue to develop the block and increase production in the coming years through the delivery of major facility and infrastructure projects, along with the drilling of additional wells to maximize utilization of available processing capacity.
Our team working on the Atrush project includes more than 200 people from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and other countries. Our staff spans TAQA’s Abu Dhabi-based headquarters and offices in Erbil,
Duhok, at the Atrush Block and in the various community liaison offices in the villages and towns where the field is located.

Timeline

2007 – Production sharing agreement signed
2011 – Atrush field discovered with well AT-1
2012 – TAQA acquires an interest in and operatorship of the Atrush production sharing agreement
2012 – Declaration of commerciality
2013 – Field development plan approved
2017 – First oil from phase 1 facilities and three wells
2018 – Addition of two wells, production reaches 30,000 bopd
2019 – TAQA acquires additional 7.5% working interest from Marathon
2019 – Addition of five wells and processing expansion; production reaches 50,000 in December

TAQA holds a 47.4% working interest in the Atrush Block, with the Kurdistan Regional Government (25%) and General Exploration Partners, Inc. (27.6%) holding the remaining interests through participation in a production-sharing contract (PSC).
